What's Happening Now

Public hearings of the Royal Commission into the Management of Police Informants resume Tuesday 30 July 2019.

This round of hearings will explore interactions between Victoria Police and Nicola Gobbo during her period of registration as a human source between September 2005 and January 2009.

The first witnesses will be former manager Specialist Covert Duties, Source Development Unit, Detective Senior Sergeant ‘Jones’ (a pseudonym); former member of the Source Development Unit, Detective Sergeant ‘Brennan’ (a pseudonym), and retired Victoria Police Detective James O'Brien, former officer-in-charge of the Purana Taskforce.

So far, the Commission’s public and in-camera hearings have explored dealings between Nicola Gobbo and members of Victoria Police between 1993 to 2005.

While the Commission’s preference is to hold its hearings in public, it may be necessary to close parts of these hearings to protect the safety of certain witnesses and affected persons.
